After School Enrichment-West Plano/North Dallas
Since January, I have had the pleasure of volunteering in the Challenging Island classroom at my daughter’s school. As a former educator, I can see the quality of the program that is being offered and how it is making the kids think. The teachers are very good at presenting the problem or challenge of the day and then letting the kids work together to solve it.
It has been exciting to see the kids grow over time. In January, the groups required a certain amount of assistance to get going on the problems, to navigate their interpersonal relationships and to make progress. Now, here in May they are far more familiar with the way Challenge Island works and the way their group interacts and, as a result, they need far less assistance. Challenge Island not only allows for this type of growth but encourages it.
I feel fortunate that my daughter has been a part of Challenge Island this Spring. I hope that the skills of leadership, cooperation, compromise, problem-solving and friendship she has learned here become something she can rely on as she goes through school.
